Game of Thrones: Shame of Thrones

Yanno, I'm really rather tired of Game of Thrones. I'm sorry, but what is so appealing about watching women be oppressed, used as objects and pawns, and raped on a weekly basis? Seriously, please, do tell me.

First, if this is a fantasy world why does it have to subjugate and inflict violence on women like our own reality? Isn't the whole point of fantasy that it's not our world? So you threw in some fucking dragons, big deal. Otherwise all I see are pale faces and rape. . .in every land. . .in every city. I guess I should consider the source: an old white man. I wonder, is this how he plays out his rape fetish? Too fat and old to forcefully rape a woman so I'll write about all these men and live vicariously through them as they rape and pillage. Greaaaat.

Secondly, don't fucking tell me that Jamie will win my favor back after he rapes his sister. You have a vagina, and you really think that after someone rapes a person that they could win any favor back? REALLY? REALLY?! You, gigantic idiot, are reinforcing the rape culture in the world. Thank you for your existence...not. Clearly, you have never been sexually assaulted. Clearly, you are the problem.

Furthermore, this series romanticizes rape by eluding to the viewer that the rapist was a baddie and justice was served when Jon Snow (or anyone, really) smote the bastard. Seriously? So it's okay because justice was served. In reality, rapists aren't "baddies" like in literature, they're your friends, neighbors, brother, and no justice is ever served. I promise.

Game of Thrones should be more like Shame of Thrones. Not only have we lifted up yet another piece of literature written by an old white man, we are lifting up this fantasy reality as if it's anything of value. That "fantasy" world he has created is in the past for a reason. We don't act like that for a reason.

So why do you spend every goddamn Sunday glorifying this misogynist fuck?
Give me one good reason.

**I understand there may be liberties given to HBO to depict the series. But I'm sure that the author tried his hand at many of these rapes we watch each week.**

  1. Funny, this sounds like the commentary I have had about it before with the books...

As stated elsewhere though, "it is much worse on screen because I hear that the line he says makes him seem like he is not taking responsibility for his actions and blaming the gods."

Who wants to bet that a statement about "this is supposed to make people think and talk about it" is going to come out within the year. I do not think there is much thought needed to know this is wrong.

I recall reading somewhere that if women need to be hurt, tortured, injured and killed to move your story along, you have a HUGE problem in your story. Especially if it is the impetus for your male leads.
